'Glee' Casts Rachel's Dads: Brian Stokes & Jeff Goldblum Will Debut & Sing On Valentine's Day Episode

TVLine:

As far as parental cliffhangers go, it's second only to the identity of the Mother on a certain CBS sitcom: "Glee" has finally cast Rachel's gay dads, and TVLine can reveal which musically-inclined actors landed the plum parts.

A show insider confirms to TVLine exclusively that onetime "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" detective Jeff Goldblum and Broadway veteran Brian Stokes Mitchell have been tapped to play Hiram and LeRoy Berry, the adoptive parents of Lea Michele's character.

Wedding Photography ? Investing In Your Investment | World Wealth ...

When you are planning your wedding, inevitably an enormous amount of thought, time and money goes into the process. Sometimes this means years of planning; and a very large financial commitment.

Eventually, after a lot of research and time on your part you make the final decisions and choose the suppliers you think will help make your big day everything you are hoping for. You pay over those deposits or retaining fees, and there is that feeling of excitement that you are one step closer to the wedding; but also a small twitchy feeling of anxiety. Have you just made the right decision? After all, its a big investment, isnt it?

And thats the key phrase. You have made an investment. An investment with a professional such as a wedding photographer, an investment into their skill and expertise; and now you trust them to do an expert job for you.

Investment goes further than your pocket, however ? or at least it should. Its simple, really. Yes, those professionals you have booked will do their job, but wouldnt it be great if they did more than just that? Go that extra mile, make that extra effort; invest themselves in your wedding day, in YOU; and give you that little something extra in return.

The very best wedding photographers will do just that. They will get to know their couples, form a relationship so that they can get the very best from them, and give the very best they can in return.

But lets turn this on its head for a minute. What if there is no relationship? What if you simply book your professional to do the job and thats that? No personal contact, you just pay final fees, check wedding day details and expect them to turn up and do what you have paid them to do. Well, that should be ok; you have taken your time to choose and hire professionals, and as such they should perform accordingly.

But because you havent made an investment in them, taken the trouble to get to know them a little ? why should they in return invest in you, get to know you and your personal desires for this special day youre planning? After all, they are just the hired help, arent they?

If you want to get the very best from your wedding photographer (and after all your research, you paid good money for the best you could find, yes?) then simply invest in them. Just a little. Take an interest in what they do; read their blog, catch up on Facebook from time to time. Above all discuss your plans, your dreams ? make them feel part of your big day, not just someone who is performing a functional service.

You will be surprised at just how much more fun they are to be around, what an incredible store of knowledge they have for you to draw on, and how often you notice them doing just that little bit more than you expected.

Oh, and above all dont forget to say a quick thank you when the dust has settled and you have time to reflect. And if they dont deserve a thank you? Well, be sure to tell them that too!

Where Will Doomed Russian Mars Probe Fall? (SPACE.com)

A huge hunk of Russian space junk is set to crash to Earth in the next few days, but nobody knows exactly when or where it's going to come down.

The 14.5-ton Mars probe Phobos-Grunt, which got stuck in Earth orbit shortly after its Nov. 8 launch, may re-enter the atmosphere at 11:22 a.m. EST (1622 GMT) on Sunday (Jan. 15), according to the latest estimate published today (Jan. 13) by Roscosmos, Russia's space agency.

If that projection is accurate, pieces of the failed spacecraft will splash into the Atlantic Ocean about 1,000 miles (1,600 kilometers) south of Buenos Aires.

But that's a big if.

Uncertain predictions

The predicted time and place of re-entry could change in the future, Roscosmos said. Indeed, the newest estimate is substantially different from two others the space agency issued earlier in the week, which had the probe coming down earlier on Sunday and falling into the Indian Ocean off the coast of Java or near Madagascar. [Photos of the Phobos-Grunt mission]

Further, other organizations and observers tracking Phobos-Grunt have their own estimates, some of which roughly agree with Roscosmos' predictions and some of which have the probe crashing later, perhaps early Monday morning (Jan. 16).

So all we know for certain right now is that Phobos-Grunt will fall to Earth soon, somewhere between 51.4 degrees north latitude and 51.4 degrees south latitude ? a stretch of the planet ranging from London in the north to the Falkland Islands in the south.

And the predictions won't really start firming up until shortly before the probe's fall, experts say.

"About two hours out, the U.S. military will publish their last re-entry prediction, and that will likely be the most accurate public prediction, as they have very accurate data on the object's orbit that will not be available publicly," said Brian Weeden, a technical adviser with the Secure World Foundation and a former orbital analyst with the Air Force.

"Up until then, I would take any prediction with a large grain of salt," Weeden told SPACE.com in an email.

Most of probe should burn up

Most of Phobos-Grunt's weight consists of toxic fuel, prompting some concern that its crash could spread dangerous chemicals over populated or environmentally sensitive areas. But Roscosmos officials have said that the fuel will burn up high in Earth's atmosphere.

The vast majority of Phobos-Grunt should meet the same fate, according to Roscosmos. The space agency estimates that no more than 20 to 30 pieces of the probe, weighing a total of less than 440 pounds (200 kilograms), will reach the ground.

While it's tough to vet these claims, they're likely to be fairly accurate, Weeden said.

"Since they have the most data on its construction and design, I don?t think anyone else is in a position at this point to contradict them," he said. "And their statement is reasonable and consistent with what normally happens."

At this point, the world may be getting rather accustomed to giant pieces of metal falling from the sky. Phobos-Grunt's crash will be the third uncontrolled re-entry of a big spacecraft in the last four months, following NASA's defunct UARS satellite in September and the dead German ROSAT satellite in October.

Nobody on the ground was hurt by UARS or ROSAT debris. In fact, no one is known to have ever been injured by a chunk of man-made space junk.

The $165 million Phobos-Grunt spacecraft launched Nov. 8 on a mission to collect soil samples from the Mars moon Phobos and send them back to Earth ("grunt" means "soil" in Russian). Shortly after liftoff, however, the probe's engines failed to fire as planned to send it on a path toward the Red Planet.

Russian officials still aren't sure what caused the failure, though they recently raised the possibility that some sort of sabotage may be responsible.

Red Tape: Opponents to SOPA gain momentum

By Bob Sullivan

Opponents of controversial federal anti-piracy legislation known as SOPA seem to be picking up steam.

Late Friday afternoon, Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Texas), said he planned tone down enforcement powers that would be granted by the proposed Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA).? A new version would not include the most controversial provision, which would have enabled federal authorities to "blacklist" domains that were alleged to be involved in distribution of pirated content, effectively cutting portions of the Web off from all U.S. users.

"After consultation with industry groups across the country, I feel we should remove Domain Name System blocking from the Stop Online Piracy Act so that the Committee can further examine the issues surrounding this provision," Smith, one of SOPA's chief backers, said in a statement. "We will continue to look for ways to ensure that foreign websites cannot sell and distribute illegal content to U.S. consumers."

?

The move comes after a similar step taken on Thursday by Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), sponsor of the Senate companion bill to SOPA, called The Protect IP Act, or PIPA. Leahy said complaints from "human rights groups, engineers, and others" had convinced him to change his thinking on the bill.

"I remain confident that the ISPs ? including the cable industry, which is the largest association of ISPs ? would not support the legislation if its enactment created the problems that opponents of this provision suggest. Nonetheless, this is in fact a highly technical issue, and I am prepared to recommend we give it more study before implementing it," he said in a statement on his website.

"As I prepare a managers? amendment to be considered during the floor debate, I will therefore propose that the positive and negative effects of this provision be studied before implemented, so that we can focus on the other important provisions in this bill, which are essential to protecting American intellectual property online, and the American jobs that are tied to intellectual property.? I regret that law enforcement will not have this remedy available to it when websites operating overseas are stealing American property, threatening the safety and security of American consumers."

While Senate debate on PIPA is slated for later this month, advocacy group Public Knowledge said on Friday that it believed debate on SOPA was going to be postponed until February.?

Either way, removal of DNS blacklisting provision is unlikely to satisfy critics of Congressional anti-piracy efforts. They find other provisions ? such as the ability for the Justice Department to cut off payment processing for alleged "rogue" websites ? to be nearly as problematic.

"The DNS filtering provisions represent only some of the fundamental flaws in PIPA," the Electronic Froniter Foundation said in a statement to Geek.com. "This bill, and its House counterpart, cannot be fixed ? they must be killed."

Meanwhile, discussions about SOPA hung over the annual CES geek-fest, held this week in Las Vegas. At the trade show, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) talked up his legislative alternative to SOPA, the OPEN Act, or Online Protection and Enforcement of Digital Trade Act. He also promised to hold hearings next week on the issue. (For more, see this story.)
