4 Easy Methods To Earn Quick Cash OnlineBelieve me, it did happens. Method #1
Selling on Ebay. You don?t have to be an ebay powerseller to set up an eBay store or anything like that to get started. You may simply just looking around your house for things that you no longer need or want, then you wrap them up nicely and proceed to open up an eBay and also a PayPal merchant account, next you will need to post an ad on eBay and within a day, you?ll start seeing some sales. You can then transfer the money from your PayPal account to your bank account directly. It only takes a few business days. If you have some great items laying around, you can actually make a nice payday out of it. Many people do this as their main source of income.

Method #2

Get hired as a freelancer at places such as Elance.com, VWorker.com, Odesk.com or Fiverr.com. Depending on what your skill is, you can make a quick killing by outsourcing yourself out to somebody looking for something to be done. If you have skill in programming, then you can offer simple programming work to anyone who are looking for a simple job to be done on their site or project. Maybe you have skill in proofreading. If a person is looking for someone to proofread their written workbook, user guide, ebook or even a manuscript, you can make a quick few bucks by doing a proofing work for them. Payment can be made to your PayPal account and again, just like with Ebay, you can have that money in your bank account within a few business days.

Iran starts navy drills in Strait of Hormuz -IRNA

DUBAI (Reuters) - Iran started on Friday six days of naval drills in the Strait of Hormuz, the official IRNA news agency reported, maneuvers aimed at showcasing its military capabilities in what is a vital oil and gas shipping route.

Naval commander Habibollah Sayyari said the "Velayat 91" drills would last until Wednesday across an area of about 1 million square kilometers in the Strait of Hormuz, the Gulf of Oman and northern parts of the Indian Ocean, IRNA said.

Sayyari said the goal of the maneuvers were to show "the armed forces' military capabilities" in defending Iran's borders as well as sending a message of peace and friendship to neighboring countries.

Iranian officials have often said Iran could block the strait - through which 40 percent of the world's sea-borne oil exports pass - if it came under military attack over its disputed nuclear program.

Iran held a similar 10-day drill last December and sent a submarine and a destroyer into the Gulf four months ago just as U.S. and allied navies were conducting exercises in the same waters to practice keeping oil shipping lanes open.

Sayyari was quoted as saying on Tuesday that the new drill would test the navy's missile systems, combat ships, submarines and patrol and reconnaissance methods.

A heavy Western naval presence in the Gulf is meant to deter any attempt to block the waterway.

The Importance of Customer Service Surveys for Call Center ...

We?ve recently surveyed our customers to see if our call center services were meeting their expectations.?? I?ve found to provide excellent customer service?it?s best to proactively obtain information from our customers whether the their input is complimentary or expresses concerns about our service.

A customer satisfaction survey is an important component of any relationship.? It shows

The a-okay sign that shows the importance of a customer satisfaction survey in a call center. image

Customer Satisfaction!

that you value your customer and the experience provided to them.? ?Ehow.com article states: Although many businesses are quick to placate customers who voice complaints, a business that pre-emptively strives to satisfy the customer makes an even better impression. This consideration of the customer?s opinions can foster loyalty in the long run and translate to repeat sales.

In another article it describes: A customer satisfaction survey is a very important tool that can provide benefits for businesses of every size. Surveys can assist business decision-makers in developing strategies to achieve the all-important goal of gaining and retaining customers. Results can play a key role in identifying areas of the business that require corrective action and improvement. Surveys can also identify areas that can be leveraged to achieve business growth and expansion.

As I stated in an earlier blog on the customer experience: Customer impact is worth?s its weight on gold.? Usually, the first impression is a lasting one, so we need to make very impression count.?

Whether a customer is paying for call center,? telephone answering service or other services, we believe it?s our responsibility to provide nothing less than what they pay for!? Customer satisfaction surveys help us gain our customers prospective of our service, while helping us to find what?s?working and what?s?not working in delivering services that will meet or exceed?our customers? expectations.

Autonomy's Lynch defends record as HP confirms Federal probe

LONDON (Reuters) - Mike Lynch, the founder of the software firm sold to Hewlett-Packard last year in a deal tainted by accusations of accounting fraud, said he would defend the company's accounts to U.S. Federal investigators.

HP confirmed in a filing late on Thursday that the U.S. Department of Justice was investigating Autonomy's books.

The PC and printer maker bought the British company for $11 billion last year to lead its push into the more profitable software sector.

Autonomy did not deliver the growth expected, resulting in Lynch's departure earlier this year.

But worse was to come last month when HP wrote off some $5 billion of the company's value and accused its former management of accounting improprieties that inflated its value.

The Silicon Valley company said it had passed information from a whistleblower to the U.S. Department of Justice, the SEC and Britain's Serious Fraud Office.

"On November 21, 2012, representatives of the U.S. Department of Justice advised HP that they had opened an investigation relating to Autonomy," it said in the filing.

"HP is cooperating with the three investigating agencies."

Lynch launched a robust defense of his track record almost immediately after HP made the accusations.

He said on Friday that he was still waiting for a detailed calculation of HP's $5 billion writedown of Autonomy's value and a published explanation of the allegations.

"Simply put these allegations are false, and in the absence of further detail we cannot understand what HP believes to be the basis for them," he said in a statement.

"We continue to reject these allegations in the strongest possible terms. Autonomy's financial accounts were properly maintained in accordance with applicable regulations, fully audited by Deloitte and available to HP during the due diligence process."

Lynch said he had not been approached by any regulatory authority, but he would co-operate with any investigation and looked forward to the opportunity to explain his position.

HP has refused to concede to Lynch's demands for more information about the allegations.

"While Dr. Lynch is eager for a debate, we believe the legal process is the correct method in which to bring out the facts and take action on behalf of our shareholders," it said in response to an open letter from Lynch last month

"In that setting, we look forward to hearing Dr. Lynch and other former Autonomy employees answer questions under penalty of perjury."

Social Media Trends from the Nielsen Social Media Report 2012

Last updated 1 hour 14 minutes ago

Nielsen?s State of the Media: The Social Media Report 2012 reflects on various social media trends of 2012, as well as the potential impact they will have on the coming year. There is no denying that social media is more popular than ever with consumers, and that having a social media presence is critical for SMBs? online marketing strategies in 2013.? Here are a few highlights from the report.

Mobile Usage Is Not Slowing Down

As you might have guessed, the amount of time consumers spent on PCs and Smartphones increased between July 2011 and July 2012.? Time spent on these devices grew by 21%, while time on apps rose 120% in that same period.? While PCs still remain our primary source of Internet access, the usage of mobile Web and apps are increasing at a significant rate. Small businesses can?t afford to ignore mobile any longer, and should invest in mobile-friendly advertising and sites to reach this growing audience.?

Time Spent on Social Networks Grew 37%.

From July 2011 to July 2012, the time consumers spent on social media sites grew from 88.4B minutes to a whopping 121.1B minutes. Nielsen attributes this substantial growth in part to the rise of mobile apps, which enable us to stay connected to our favorite sites while on the go. In fact, we spent seven times more minutes on apps than on the mobile Web. Time spent on these sites means social media access is not only on the rise, but also that we are more engaged when we do visit them. For small businesses, this means being active on social media is more important than ever in order to reach consumers spending a large portion of their time there.?

Consumers Value Social Customer Service

For more and more consumers, social care, also known as social customer service, is becoming an increasingly important, and valuable social media trend for SMBs to leverage. Nielsen reports that one in three social media users prefer social care to contacting a company by phone. That means that more consumers are using social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and the company blog to reach out to businesses and brands in the hope of resolving a customer service issue. SMBs are not immune to this trend, and many will see an influx of customer complaints through these channels, which can impact their online reputation. As a result, it?s vital for businesses to monitor their social media pages regularly and respond to customer questions, complaints, and more as soon as possible.?

As we?ve seen throughout the year, mobile and social media continue to top consumers? online behavior. And as 2012 winds down, it?s important for small businesses to think about whether they have successfully taken advantage of some of these social media trends, and how they can incorporate them in the future. You can read the entire Nielsen social media report here.?

How do mobile and social media fit into your online marketing strategy? Let us know in the comments!

Warm glow of Berlin's gas streetlights set to fade

Most of Berlin's gaslights, those distinctive street jewels that have spread a gentle golden glow for more than a century-and-a-half, are set to be removed. NBC's Andy Eckardt reports

By Peter Jeary, NBC News

BERLIN - As a capital city, Berlin has endured more than its fair share of division over the years.?Now new battle lines are being drawn over what some see as a fight for the city's character.

The conflict began when City Hall announced?its intention to phase out the vast majority of Berlin's historic gas lamps?as?part of an ambitious project to make the city carbon-neutral by 2050.

With nearly 43,000 gas-powered streetlights, Berlin has more than any other city in the world. In fact, more than one in six in the city are gas.

Some date back to the 19th century; others were erected immediately after World War II as the occupying Soviet forces made restoring light to the devastated city a priority.

In recent years, guided tours have been run to picturesque areas, with sightseers attracted by the?distinctive warm, yellowish glow of gas lamps.

Pete Jeary/NBC News

With nearly 43,000 gas-powered street lamps, Berlin has more than any other town or city in the world.

Pollution, expense
Think Beacon Hill in Boston or San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter - but on a much larger scale - and cue the outrage.

But with annual running costs for fuel and maintenance as much as $700 for some lamp models, and carbon dioxide emissions almost ten times that of an equivalent electric light, there are now strong financial and environmental incentives to replace gas with electric alternatives.

The city's current modernization program?(link in German) will see 8,000 highway lamps, mostly dating from the early 1950s, replaced with new electric lights.

City authorities say the figures speak for themselves.

?The energy used by those 8,000 gas lamps could power 100,000 electric lights.?And replacing them would cut energy costs by 90 percent, reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 9,200 tons per year and save a chunk of the $1.6 million spent each year just on replacement gas mantles.

Pete Jeary/NBC News

Annual running costs for a gas-powered lamp can be as much as $700, and CO2 emissions almost ten times that of an equivalent electric light.

Read more about Germany from NBC News

Petra Rohland, spokeswoman for Berlin's Department of Urban Development, said the current refit would be complete by end of 2016 - and would recoup the cost within nine years.

All but a few of the city's gas-powered lamps will eventually go.

"Five percent of the historic gas lights, especially the candelabra, will be kept as originals in the future," Rohland said.

'Knock down the Brandenburg Gate'
It's a future that fills some Berliners like Paul Harrison with dread.

Harrison is a member of a growing band of preservation societies?who oppose the wholesale replacement of gas lights.

He challenges the environmental and financial arguments put forward by the city to justify the changes.

Futuristic highway glows in the dark, reports the weather?

"If we're just talking about saving money, we could knock down the Brandenburg Gate," he said ironically. "After all, that costs a lot to keep going, to keep clean."

Harrison's group, Gaslight Culture, is calling for the dismantling to be suspended - and for talks between all interested parties.

New bulb ushers in 100-watt-like LED light

"We haven't started to explore the possibilities, such as different forms of financing or even sponsorship of streets or districts," he said.

Harrison deplored what he described as ?the rejection of a working system.??And the replacement LEDs would be ?prohibitively expensive? and ?far from convincing? as alternatives.

'A living light'
Such rejection of new technology would be a disappointment to Andre Braun, who has spent years developing LED illumination that?mimics the color of gas light?(in German).

For Braun, whose workshop is on the same site as the former Berlin gas plant where his father once worked, the search for the perfect replacement is nothing short of a crusade.

Glowing plastic lets you make light bulbs in any shape

The way he talks about working with gas is reminiscent of how a fisherman might talk of the sea.

"It's so very difficult to work with," Braun said. "The extremes of temperature make it a constant battle ... unlike electricity, which is a dead light, gas gives a living light. But that's tough to recreate in an LED."

"Some people think I'm crazy to spend all this time trying to replicate the look of the gas lamp," he said. "But they are beautiful; gas lights have no glare, you can look right into them."

China: cafe culture threatens tea houses | beyondbrics

?Not for all the tea in China,? is a handy way to express extreme unwillingness to do something in the English language ? because China is synonymous with tea.

But the way China is latching onto coffee culture these days, China?s relationship with tea may never be the same again.

According to a report published this week by Mintel, a retail consultancy, the number of coffee houses in China has nearly doubled in the last five years to over 31,000.

Over the same period, the number of Chinese tea houses rose by only 4 per cent to 50,000. Yes, there are still more tea houses than coffee shops. But the bad news is that their clientele are often elderly, which may not bode well for the future.

?Tea houses have targeted higher-end consumers with expensive teas, food and service, but lack differentiation, and there are few successful brands to meet the challenge posed by the rise of the caf? chains,? says Mintel, which predicts continuing slow growth of tea houses though also the emergence of tea house chains targeted at younger, lower-income consumers.

Even worse for the tea houses is the fact that popular coffee chains like Starbucks have branched out into selling tea drinks in China, where people adore coffee culture but do not much like the taste of coffee itself.

?Many caf?s sell both tea and coffee, competing for custom from younger and lower income consumers who might respond well to a middle-market tea house chain,? the report says. The risk is that, in the end, it may be hard to tell the difference as both sell each other?s products.

Nearly a quarter of Chinese consumers chose to buy tea drinks even in coffee shops, Mintel says. And a quick glance at the menu of any Starbucks in China will show that many of the other drinks have not much coffee in them either; they tend to be more like milkshakes than espressos.

?Not for all the tea in China? should work as an expression of utter bloody-mindedness for quite a while yet. China may like its Starbucks ? but not necessarily for the coffee.

Chinese e-commerce sector main target of cybercriminals

SINGAPORE--Chinese e-commerce companies are the main victims of the country's cybercriminals, who are on the lookout to steal identities for monetization purposes and fraud activities, because of the country's real-name rule.

According to John Ellis, director of enterprise security at Akamai Technologies, e-commerce is the most widely targeted industry in China by cybercriminals within the country. The sector is booming and growing rapidly in China generating a lot of revenue for the country, he noted, in an interview here Thursday.

China's e-commerce market had brought in US$928 billion in trade by the end of 2011, representing 12.5 percent of the country's gross domestic product that year. China has also laid out plans to drive the value of online shopping to US$2.86 trillion by 2015.

The fast growth of e-commerce companies has also made them victims of cybercriminals, who often use SQL injection attacks to gain access to personal information such as credit card details, he explained. Their intent is to sell them for profits and use them for fraud activities, Ellis said.

Identity theft and cloning is a "big business" in China, he observed. These identities are being sold in underground forums, to organized crime syndicates and other organizations for commercial purposes such as telemarketing, he said.

The stolen identities are also being used to commit fraud, since using someone else's identity is a "fantastic way to mask your fraud activities", he added.

These identities also have a short lifespan and are disposable after they emerge in credit tracks or the credit card has been blocked, so the time for cybercriminals to use this information is limited, he remarked.

China real-name rule gives rise to identity theft
This is a result of China's online real-name rule?whereby citizens have use their real name and identification number, in order for them to perform things online such as transactions and posting on social media sites, Ellis explained.

While this rule had been implemented for the Chinese government to trace people who post statements against the government on social media sites, it has led to widespread online theft and cloning as cybercriminals saw the opportunity to profit from them and use them to hide their true identities, he added.

A study by Beijing Rising Information Technology in July also revealed a large number of hackers are now eyeing e-transaction services for their own illegal gains?as online shopping and banking become increasingly popular in the country. For instance, a virus specially designed to steal private information from third-party promoters on online shopping sites are among the top 10 most detected viruses.

Government revises policies, companies tighten security
Moving forward, the Chinese government needs to look beyond the real-name rule to improve IT security and attribution of citizens on the Internet, Ellis advised.

Currently, the government has "weak dialogue" with the IT industry, which has not accepted some policies implemented by the government, he explained. They need to re-examine these policies and the practical implications around them, making it clearer to protect citizens' personal data, he said.

As for e-commerce companies, they need to examine how to secure credit card information better, Ellis said. He observed that IT security practices in China are still very much rooted in traditional practices such as perimeter defenses and e-commerce companies need to start thinking differently.

They have to understand the payment applications, ensure sensitive information are not stolen and not assume that all consumers connecting to their system are safe, he explained.

Why Work Stresses Us Out (and What We Can Do About It) [Stress]

Why Work Stresses Us Out (and What We Can Do About It) It's no surprise that our jobs can be stressful, but ignoring that stress and what it does to you is a one-way ticket to both physical and mental health problems. Thankfully, not all is lost, and there are plenty of ways to handle workplace stress that can take the edge off. Here's what we mean.

Why Work Stresses Us Out (and What We Can Do About It) This infographic from the folks at The Salary Reporter doesn't contain any surprises, but it does a great job of outlining some of the common causes of office stress and what our physiological response to those acute and chronic stressors really are. Everyone knows stress when they feel it, but what that stress response is doing to you physically is worth remembering, and dismissing it by saying "well, at least I have a job to be stressed out by" is dangerous. In fact, even paying attention to your body when you feel yourself getting stressed out can at times be enough mental breathing room to stop, take a few deep breaths, and try to calm down.

Beyond recognizing the stress when you see it and trying to remove yourself from its effects at the time, there are plenty of other options to help minimize daily stress or decrease your overall stress level. The infographic suggests making sure you take your vacation when you've accrued it, instead of sitting on it for years at a time?something we've told you to do as well. The graphic also suggests getting professional help managing your stress if you're having trouble coping, which is a great idea.

If you're looking for more suggestions, here are some great ways to handle stress, and even more ways to combat burnout at the office, like making sure to get a good night's sleep, exercising regularly, and leaving work every day at a decent time.

Colbert wary of Iranian entourage at Costco

Comedy Central

Stephen Colbert mocked Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's interest in Costco on Monday night's "Colbert Report."

By Craig Berman, NBC News contributor

If you were an Iranian looking for fun at the United Nations this week, a trip to Costco might not have been the first stop on your itinerary. Fortunately for Stephen Colbert, however, the approximately 140-person entourage of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad spent their free time focused on buying hair care products in bulk.

Colbert was outraged at the presence of the Iranians at the Harlem Costco, though likely not as enraged as those shoppers who were expecting a sleepy midweek shopping experience and instead found a hoard of tourists clogging the shampoo aisle.

?They are seeking to split the atom, and now they can prevent split ends. How could Obama let this happen?? Colbert said.

He also noted that allowing the delegation to shop undercuts the whole point of sanctions, which is to prevent Iran from importing key products.

?We?ll never cripple their regime with economic isolation now that they have their own 200-pound boxes of economy size Advil, bulk bins of Nutter Butter and great shrink-wrapped rafts of shrimp Cup-O-Noodles,? Colbert said. ?They?ll be able to hide their nuclear facilities inside their giant discarded barrels of Kirkland cole slaw.

??Don?t worry,? you say, ?they don?t have enriched uranium yet.? Well, you know what else Costco sells? Yellow cake. A five-pound box (of cake mix) for $10.85. For $10.85, if you don?t make nukes you?re losing money. These maniacs may deny the Holocaust, but we have just laid the ground for a Holo-Costco,? he added

Good thing Colbert apparently didn?t know that the delegation reportedly hit the Payless and Walgreens stores as well.

?Let?s get ready to humble!'

Jon Stewart had some fun on ?The Daily Show? poking fun at the efforts to downplay expectations heading into the first presidential debate. To hear both his staffers and the talking heads pontificate, it seems like each candidate will consider it a success if they manage to go the whole 90 minutes without throwing up on the audience from sheer terror.

Well, except for New Jersey governor Chris Christie, who went on TV and announced:? ?Here?s the good news for the Republicans. We?ve got a candidate who?s going to do extremely well Wednesday night!? He went on to declare Wednesday a game-changer that would witness Romney seize control of the election, a bar considerably higher than the one most of the party had set.

That was confusing to Stewart ? for a moment.

?What are you doing Christie?! If Romney fails to meet those expectations, he?s going to lose the general election creating chaos in the Republican Party, leaving an opening in 2016 ? ohhhhhhhh,? Stewart said.

The debate jokes were a preview to his interview with Arnold Schwarzenegger. The former governor of California who went through some well-publicized trouble in his personal life a year ago had to be wondering how far he?d fallen, from being in charge of the largest (and arguably most dysfunctional) state in the country to sitting across from Stewart listening to multiple ?if you could only go back in time and change things? jokes.

But Schwarzenegger did have something to say about political infighting, not surprising considering his think-tank at USC is looking to end that as well as climate change and other easy-to-solve problems.

?I saw this first-hand in Sacramento -- a lot of good ideas that people put on the table can?t always get done because of the politics,? he said. ?We were able to accomplish a lot by bringing the parties together, but there were other things that were much more difficult, and it was a real eye opener. I said we?ve got to cut down our spending by $5 billion and they said ?hell no, because people need those programs and services. We?re not going to have welfare reform.??

?That experience should make dealing with the book promotion circuit child?s play.

Animal Cloning Makes Strides In Life & Science (VIDEO)

How do you feel about cloning animals? Have you ever hoped you could make an exact copy of your furry loved one?

A woman named Kit Knotts did just that. When her prized dressage horse Marc started getting older, she asked Dr. Katrin Hinrichs of Texas A&M University to make a new horse, genetically identical to Marc. Today, Kit is the proud owner of Mystic, a 3 month old cloned foal.

Hear Kit and Dr. Hinrich's story straight from the horses' mouth (sorry, I had to!) by watching the video above. And don't forget to leave a comment at the bottom of the page. Come on, talk nerdy to me!

CARA SANTA MARIA: Hi everyone. Cara Santa Maria here. How do you feel about cloning animals? Have you ever hoped you could make an exact copy of your furry loved one? Well, Kit Knotts did just that. When her prized dressage horse Marc started getting older, she asked Texas A&M Professor of Veterinary Medicine Dr. Katrin Hinrichs to make a new horse, genetically identical to Marc. Today, based in Florida, Kit's the proud owner of Mystic, a 3 month old foal. Marc has since passed away, and Kit's grateful she made the decision to clone him while she still could.

KIT KNOTTS: And it's been an amazing roller coaster, up down, happy, tragic experience, and I wouldn?t trade it for anything.

KATRIN HINRICHS: Kit contacted us to just freeze, culture and freeze, cells from her horse for possible future cloning but she was so interested in the work we were doing she decided to go ahead and fund research in our lab.

CSM: So how exactly do you go about cloning a horse?

KH: It is a really hard thing to do. I think it?s simple in that the steps are very straightforward: get the cell, get the egg, take the chromosomes, out of the egg, put the cell into the egg. But right now there are only four laboratories in the entire world that have ever announced that they?ve produced a cloned foal.

CSM: And in fact, Mystic wasn't the first attempt at cloning Marc. A previous clone, named Mouse, was born, and Kit bonded with him intensely before he died at three months, from intestinal complications apparently unrelated to the cloning process.

KK: Making the decision to keep trying to have these cloned foals was a really hard one. But I decided if I was gonna do it, then I would do it 100 percent. We never thought he would make it but he did and that?s Mystic and he?s now almost four months old. He?s fabulous, he?s the best boy that ever lived.

CSM: If you think about it--I mean, really think about it--that's incredible. Dr. Hinrichs managed to take a small sample of cells from underneath Marc's skin and remove all of his DNA from them. This DNA contained the instructions to build a brand new horse, with Marc's exact same genetic material. Apparently the tricky part was getting the immature eggs, or oocytes, that the DNA would eventually live inside. These oocytes were harvested from healthy mares, matured in the lab, and then their own DNA was carefully removed, to make room for Marc's DNA. With a bit of hormonal manipulation, the oocytes began to grow an embryo inside. Then they were put into the womb of another mare, to grow and mature until birth.

KH: Cloning seems like sort of science fiction, but it?s actually a fairly simple process, and the reason it works is because of the oocyte. The oocyte does the job. We as scientists don?t really do the job. The oocyte is the one that?s doing the miraculous thing here, it is an amazing, amazing cell.

CSM: So, cloned animals have the same DNA, but they live completely different lives. Does that mean Kit has replaced Marc with an exact replica in Mystic?

KH: The very best simile that you can use is an identical twin. Well, how similar are identical twins? Well, you can say, well, they look almost exactly alike. If one?s got blonde hair, the other one?s gonna have blonde hair, if one?s got blue eyes, the other one?s gonna have blue eyes. But then you get into things that just kind of happen to you as you live, in utero, on the ground, and say well if one twin lost his front tooth today does that mean the other twin?s going to lose his front tooth today? Well, nobody would expect that. So they?re identical, but they?re not identical, that?s the thing.

CSM: Oh, and in case you're wondering (like I was) why Marc and Mystic are two totally different colors--I mean, they're supposed to be identical, after all! It's because the Lipizzan breed greys as it ages. When Mystic gets a little older, he too, will turn white. But there's one thing Kit says is exactly the same between Marc and his clones.

KK: If you have ever seen Marc?s joints you would say, ?how could a horse have joints like that?? They were so huge. Same with Mouse. Same with Mystic. They?re gorgeous. They last forever.

CSM: So, I wondered, after all this, just how do Dr. Hinrichs and Kit feel about animal cloning?

KK: One thing I would recommend is for anyone with a special animal and this can be a dog, cat, horse--whatever, if the animal is special, either personally or from a performance point of view or a genetics/breeding point of view, bank their genes now. I would really have regretted if I hadn?t done Marc while he was still alive.

KH: It costs so much--sort of upwards of $150,000--that you would only do it if you really feel that the genetics of the horse you?re cloning are very, very important to preserve.

CSM: What do you think about cloning horses, or animals in general? Is it ethical? Would you want to clone your own furry friends? Let me know on Twitter, Facebook, or leave a comment right here on The Huffington Post. Come on, talk nerdy to me!

UN urges protection for elderly as world grays

(AP) ? The fast aging of Japanese society is evident as soon as one lands at Tokyo's Narita airport and sees who is doing the cleaning. Young people tend to take such menial jobs in other countries, but here they are often held by workers obviously in the second half-century of their lives.

Having the world's highest percentage of older people is creating unique challenges for Japan, but a report released Monday by the U.N. Population Fund warns that they will not be unique for long. Japan is the only country with 30 percent of its population over 60, but by 2050 more than 60 other countries, from China to Canada to Albania, will be in the same boat.

The report urges governments to summon the political will to protect the elderly and ensure they can age with good health and dignity. Discrimination toward and poverty among the aged are still far too prevalent in many countries, it says, even in the relatively wealthy industrialized nations.

The problem is worse for women, whose access to jobs and health care is often limited throughout their lives, along with their rights to own and inherit property.

"More must be done to expose, investigate and prevent discrimination, abuse and violence against older persons, especially women who are more vulnerable," the report says, calling on countries to "ensure that aging is a time of opportunity for all."

"We need bold political leadership," said Babatunde Osotimehin, executive director of the Population Fund. "Aging is manageable, but first it must be managed."

In some countries, such as Latvia and Cyprus, about half of those over 60 are living in poverty. And even in highly industrialized countries such as Japan the elderly struggle to get some services.

Hisako Tsukida, a 77-year-old retired elementary school teacher in Japan's ancient capital of Kyoto, is living what sounds like a dream retirement life, taking tai chi and flower arrangement lessons and visiting a fitness center for spa treatments and muscle training.

But her current leisure followed many years of caring for her ailing husband and then for her mother. Japan's elderly often take on enormous burdens in caring for older relatives at home.

Tsukida spent years trying to find a nursing home for her mother, now 100, and finally succeeded about six months ago after a rare vacancy opened up. But now she wonders about the time when she'll have to go through the same struggle for herself.

"I wonder if I could do this again when I'm even older and need to find myself a place to go," she said.

The U.N. report said that policy discussions of all kinds must include a consideration of problems facing the aging if mankind is to reap a "longevity benefit" from people's longer life expectancies.

Governments should build safety nets to ensure older people have income security and access to essential health and social services, it said. The report cited data from the International Labor Organization showing that only about a fifth of all workers get comprehensive social insurance.

Aging is no longer solely an issue for rich countries. About two-thirds of people over 60 years old live in developing countries such as China, and by 2050 that figure is expected to rise to about 80 percent.

One in nine people ? 810 million ? are 60 or older, a figure projected to rise to one in five ? or more than 2 billion ? by 2050.

Even Japan, the world's third-largest economy, offers only meager social benefits, though government-subsidized services provide affordable household help and daycare in some areas.

Neighbors and religious groups often help older people, and public facilities have been vastly improved from a few decades ago, with elevators and other handicapped access now the norm.

The discovery earlier this year, though, that an aged couple and their son apparently had starved to death in their home in a Tokyo suburb highlighted Japan's own growing problems with poverty and unemployment.

Growing numbers of people suffering from dementia pose another challenge. About 35.6 million people around the world were afflicted with the disease in 2010, a number growing about 7.7 million a year and costing about $604 billion worldwide.

Provisions must be made for the infirm to ensure their basic human rights, the U.N. report says.

In many countries, including the United States, India, Brazil and Mexico, statistics show the elderly often pay more into pension systems over their lifetimes than they receive in return. Meanwhile, as retirement ages are raised and benefits cut due to ballooning deficits, the elderly are paying proportionately more in taxes.

The report blamed a bias toward youth in mass media, which stereotype aging as a time of decline, for lowering expectations about life for older people. It noted that older people often live highly productive, enjoyable lives if they have good health and reasonable levels of income.

The report's authors also argued against a prevalent belief that older workers should make way for younger job seekers, saying that way of thinking is based on the mistaken idea that there is a finite number of jobs and that workers are perfectly interchangeable.

"More jobs for older people do not mean fewer jobs for younger people," it says.

Be sure to head over to Best Buy next week to grab your DVD copy of this movie. "Rock of Ages" is about a small town girl named Sherrie who meets a city boy named Drew on the Sunset Strip while pursuing their Hollywood dreams.? The romantic narrative moves along with the?help of songs that, if you grew up in the 80's, will be very familiar to you!

My Review:

Thanks to Warner Bros. Pictures and Best Buy, I was given the chance to have a private in-home screening of this movie.

?

What did I think??

This fun film is filled with memorable music from bands such as Def Leppard, Foreigner, Journey, Poison, REO Speedwagon, Twisted Sister, and more! As a young child of the 80's, I grew up listening to this music so it impacted me greatly and I could relate to the emotions of the characters. Speaking of the characters, they?are a long line of big names such as Julianne Hough, Russell Brand, Oscar? nominee Paul Giamatti, Academy Award? winner Catherine Zeta- Jones, Malin Akerman, R&B queen Mary J. Blige, Oscar? nominee Alec Baldwin, and Oscar? nominee Tom Cruise. These big stars didn't disappoint and their performances made the movie even more memorable.?Since this is a family-friendly site, I must note that this movie does have some questionable scenes. However, one thing that is noticeably lacking is foul language, which I appreciated.?If you have the right expectations,?and you love big hair and rock?'n' roll then I?highly recommend you pick up a copy of this film at Best Buy!

POWERFUL TYPHOON JELAWAT made landfall today on the Japanese mainland a day after hitting southern Okinawa island, where local media said it left one dead and some 140 people injured.

Packing winds of up to 180 kilometres per hour, the typhoon made landfall in central Aichi prefecture at around 7pm local time (10.00 GMT) and was moving up the main island of Honshu, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

A 29-year-old man was swept away by high waves when Jelawat hit Okinawa and was later confirmed dead, while at least 140 people were injured in eight prefectures, according to public broadcaster NHK.

The typhoon is forecast to churn north-eastwards towards Tokyo over the next 24 hours and bring torrential rainfall and towering waves up to 10 metres high.

More than 500 flights, mainly in western Japan, were cancelled today and some shinkansen bullet train services across the country had been suspended, Kyodo said.

Local authorities have ordered more than 2,000 in central Mie to evacuate, while tens of thousands of people were advised to leave home for safe shelter, according to NHK.
